Black was the first donkey we ever rescued, back in July 2019. When we found her, at a mobile clinic in Kasiya village, her rear left hoof was almost completely severed – the result of being tethered at the foot with wire. She had a foal at foot and could only move very slowly on 3 legs. It took several weeks (and police involvement) to finally have her released into our care. Nearly 4 years later Blacks’ hoof has regrown, and she keeps up with the herd, although she will always have a bit of a hobble. She is the matriarch of our rescue herd and in 2021 gave birth to another foal Becky who is growing into a very friendly little donkey!
